Plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery

Plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery

What is plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery?

Vithas has specialised high-level Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery units. Reconstructive plastic surgery seeks to restore or improve body functions or physical appearance after injury caused by an illness or accident. In contrast, aesthetic surgery aims to correct congenital or ageing-related aesthetic alterations. In both cases, plastic surgery helps improve patients’ emotional stability and mood.

Our medical teams have proven experience in this field. The highly advanced techniques we perform include autologous breast reconstruction with transplants of subcutaneous tissue and of other areas of the body, which is often necessary after undergoing tumour surgery or severe trauma.

In addition, many of our professionals specialise in specific fields such as assisted body contouring, facial ageing prevention and advanced breast surgery.

In order to offer a functional and effective service, the plastic surgery service works closely with other hospital units, allowing us to offer patients comprehensive treatment to improve their health and body image.

Which patients is it for?

Aesthetic surgery is performed to change parts of the body that patients are not happy with, while reconstructive surgery is aimed at patients wanting to disguise and reconstruct the destructive effects of an accident or injury, congenital malformation defects or tumour or oncological resections.

Areas of specialisation

  • Reconstructive or restorative surgery, including microsurgery, is focused on disguising and reconstructing the destructive effects of an accident or injury, congenital malformation defects and tumour or oncological resections. This kind of surgery uses different techniques: osteosynthesis, tissue transfer through flaps and autologous transplants from healthy to affected parts of the body, etc.
  • Cosmetic or aesthetic surgery is performed to change parts of the body patients are unhappy with. In many cases, however, there are medical reasons you may need to undergo plastic surgery (for example, reduction mammoplasty when breasts are causing orthopaedic problems in the lumbar spine, or blepharoplasty in severe cases of dermatochalasis that impedes vision).

Special services

Vithas has different medical professionals with dermatological backgrounds specialising in various fields of dermatology and aesthetic techniques. Our team of dermatologists is subspecialised in different areas because the problems and diseases of the skin are many and very diverse.

In addition, the team is composed of professionals from other specialities such as plastic surgery and phlebology, allowing us to offer patients a holistic perspective while specialising in medical-aesthetic problems. In addition to performing widely known aesthetic techniques, we are committed to the latest technology in skin ageing prevention and healthy skin care techniques, while promoting habits and routines to improve skin health and quality. We are the “account managers” of each patient's ageing.

Why come to our clinic?

Vithas’ foundations and philosophy are based on the idea that aesthetic treatments should be approached in a comprehensive and harmonious manner in a hospital setting to give patients a total guarantee. We design a fully personalised treatment plan for each patient to not only deliver a “flash effect”, but to encourage patients to invest in their future skin with a progressive, structural treatment plan that will be noticeable yet natural-looking as well as preventive.

FAQs

Are the results of plastic surgery permanent?

The results of surgeries are long-lasting, but cannot always be permanent as physical changes can influence many aspects.

What are the most popular cosmetic surgeries?

Although the most popular surgeries continue to be breast augmentation and liposuction for body procedures and rhinoplasty in facial procedures, interventions such as blepharoplasty and buccal fat removal (bichectomy) are becoming increasingly popular.

What is the ideal age to have cosmetic surgery?

This depends greatly on the type of surgery to be performed, since there are different implications in a breast augmentation, for example, than in an otoplasty (ear surgery).

Will my scars completely go away after plastic surgery?

Plastic surgeons use a type of suture that ensures the scar will be barely noticeable once completely healed. However, we cannot ensure that it will completely disappear.

When can I go back to doing physical exercise?

This depends on the operation and the patient. Post-operative instructions will not be the same for a facial procedure than for a breast augmentation, for example.
